Description: This one-day conference will explore the theory of and what loose parts are, while incorporating early learning standards and school-age curricular framework. The experiences and intent of loose parts play will be explored deeply and participants will have hands-on learning opportunities through active exploration and discussion. Participants will leave with a greater understanding of the benefits of loose parts exploration in early learning environments.
Diversity/Inclusion Statement: Loose Parts is one the most basic ways teachers can support culturally sensitive and sustainable early learning environments. By including loose parts in educational pedagogy, a sense of belonging in culturally sustainable environments allow children to grow and learn about the world around them. This type of play crosses the boundaries of gender, age, abilities, and socioeconomic challenges and provides children the opportunity to explore and generate ideas about differences and similarities and an appreciation for diversity. Critical thinking skills are acquired and children are empowered to create environments which promote equality and equity while embracing social justice. During this play, children are supported in exploring their identities in an early learning environment that promotes and honors each child's individual approach to learning and natural sense of wonder curiosity and joy
