Tourism & Visitor Experience Intern
Status: Non-Exempt Hourly Staff
Classification: 0.5 FTE (20 hours/week), Limited Term – May through August. Start date flexible.
Compensation & Benefits: Commensurate with experience. Benefits include accruable PTO and sick time and paid holidays.
GENERAL SUMMARY
The Tourism & Visitor Experience Intern provides support to the Rhinelander Area Chamber of Commerce & Visitor Center by assisting with visitor services, tourism initiatives, events, and general office operations. This position offers hands-on experience in tourism promotion, community engagement, and event coordination while supporting the Chamber’s mission to promote local businesses and enhance the Rhinelander area as a destination to live, work, and visit.
SPECIFIC DUTIES- Visitor Center & Guest Services Support
- Assist in welcoming visitors to the Rhinelander Area Chamber of Commerce & Visitor Center and provide general information about local businesses, attractions, events, and recreational opportunities.
- Help maintain the appearance and organization of the visitor center including brochure displays, promotional materials, and visitor information.
- Assist with answering visitor questions in person, by phone, or through digital communication platforms.
- Help maintain and organize tourism-related materials including brochures, guides, and visitor resources.
- Tourism Promotion Support
- Assist with tourism marketing initiatives that promote the Rhinelander area as a year-round destination.
- Support the maintenance and updating of tourism information including attractions, recreation opportunities, lodging, dining, and community events.
- Assist with gathering photos, content, and information that may be used for tourism marketing efforts.
- Help prepare visitor information packets or welcome materials for visitors and groups.
- Event Support
- Assist staff with planning and preparing for Chamber events and community festivals.
- Support event logistics including: set-up, registration, information tables, and tear-down.
- Provide on-site support during Chamber-hosted events and programs when needed.
- Administrative & Operations Support
- Provide general administrative assistance to Chamber staff including data entry and project support.
- Assist with maintaining accurate information in Chamber databases and tourism resources.
- Help organize office supplies, materials, and operational resources.
- Support Chamber initiatives and projects as assigned by staff.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Interest in tourism, hospitality, marketing, communications, business, and/or community development
- Strong computer skills, especially in using the internet, Microsoft Office programs, and email.
- Must possess excellent communication skills and follow through.
- Must have the ability to handle multiple tasks and prioritize.
- Customer service skills required.
- The individual must have a demonstrated professional telephone and email etiquette.
- Must have the ability to maintain confidentiality as needed.
- Knowledge of the Rhinelander area is a plus.
