Leadership Oneida County: Building Community Leaders
By: Lauren Sackett, Rhinelander Chamber CEO

Leadership Oneida County is your opportunity to become inspired by the community around you. Everyone can make a difference by giving their time and effort to help their community. Since 2010, this program has helped over 150 people become better leaders and get more engaged within the county – here’s how:

Running each year from September to May, the once a month sessions include speakers, community tours, team-building activities, interactive lessons, and opportunities to build connections between classmates. The goal is to expose participants to various areas of our community, challenge their thinking and inspire them to get involved in improving the quality of life for everyone in the community.

Teams work on a project that benefits the community to raise awareness, solve a community issue, or help meet the needs of a nonprofit organization. Past projects have included: a historic walking tour of the Oneida County Courthouse, the development of a volunteer opportunities calendar, kayak racks at public parks, Careers on Wheels and more.

Participants come from a variety of backgrounds. This experience is for those who wish to build strong relationships, will work to improve our community after commencement, and are committed to their own personal and professional development.

Candidates from the previous programs shared comments like: “I was able to identify strengths and weaknesses, which has assisted me in my personal and professional relationships”; “I have had this program on my radar for years. I promote Rhinelander for a living and have taken away so many positive things that can be communicated to clients.”; “I’m a life-long resident, and learned there is a lot more out there than I realized.”

In summary, Leadership Oneida County is a great way for people to become better leaders and make a positive impact on their community. By working together, they can help make Oneida County a better place to live for everyone.
Leadership Oneida County is accepting interested candidates via the Chamber’s website.

There is a fee to participate in the program. Leadership Oneida County is open to all Oneida County residents and/or employees of Oneida County businesses. Scholarships are available, and will be awarded based upon need and candidate qualifications. The 2024-2025 Leadership Oneida County program is limited to 20 participants.
