The Rhinelander Area Chamber of Commerce is inviting the community and visitors alike to celebrate Independence Day in true Northwoods style during Rhinelander’s annual Fourth of July festivities. This year’s celebration carries special significance as communities across the nation recognize America 250, commemorating the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence.

Festivities begin on July 4th with the Rhinelander Lions Kiddie Parade at 10:00 a.m., followed by the community’s Main Parade at 11:00 a.m. through downtown Rhinelander. Community groups, businesses, organizations, and families are encouraged to participate in this longstanding tradition celebrating patriotism and hometown pride. Parade applications are available now.

Additional highlights throughout the day include a patriotic flyover (route and details coming soon) and a spectacular fireworks display at dusk at Hodag Park.

As part of the America 250 celebration, several special community initiatives are also taking place this year.

The new Patriotic Decor Challenge invites businesses, homeowners, apartment residents, and community members to decorate their homes, storefronts, outdoor spaces, and properties in red, white, and blue. Participants will submit photos of their displays for community voting on social media, with prizes awarded to winning entries.

Community members are also encouraged to participate in the Patriotic Expressions Contest by submitting original written reflections on “Our Country’s 250th Year of Independence.” The contest features youth and adult age categories, with winning entries receiving cash prizes, publication opportunities, and recognition during the Fourth of July festivities.

Finally, a special addition to this year’s celebration will be the distribution of 2,500 small American flags along the parade route before the parade begins. Organizers hope parade attendees will wave the flags throughout the event as a visible tribute to America’s 250th anniversary and the community spirit that defines Rhinelander’s Fourth of July tradition. Volunteers are currently being sought to assist with distributing flags prior to the start of the parade.

“Fourth of July in Rhinelander has always been about tradition, community, and bringing people together,” said Lauren Sackett, CEO of the Rhinelander Area Chamber of Commerce. “This year gives us an opportunity to celebrate not only our country’s history, but also the pride and spirit that make Rhinelander such a special place to call home.”
